Last month I had the pleasure of interviewing a local Durango climber and student at Fort Lewis College. Eli and I had plans to climb the Watch Crystal and record the podcast from the top of the cliff, but we ran out of daylight and bailed from the first pitch. In the episode, Eli and I discuss his experience with bipolar disorder and how climbing helps him sustain mental wellness.
The climb preceding the podcast was a fun romp up a sandstone dihedral of varying crack sizes. I forgot my harness and had to make do with some static rope, which was functional but far from comfortable at the hanging belay on the first pitch. As an aid climber, Eli took it in stride and had no qualms about doublechecking the setup. Despite cold temperatures, it was a relaxing evening watching the sun set over Durango.
